According to Clay Robison, 58 Texas Republican lawmakers are supporting Fred Thompson (R-Law & Order) for president. This is awkward. Is anyone going to tell them that he isn’t in the race?
Both Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson and Rep. Robert Talton have been promoting a Thompson candidacy while securing the signatures of Republicans to encourage Thompson to get in the race. But who are they really supporting? Fred Thompson or… District Attorney Arthur Branch?
Dunh Dunh.
Guess who’s one of the Senate supporters? Crazytown’s Sen. Dan Patrick. “I think he is the only true conservative in the race,” Patrick said, forgetting that one little detail that Thompson is not actually running.
Sen. Jeff Wentworth and Rep. Joe Straus are supporting Rudy Giuliani, and a group of Republicans are supporting Sen. John Barbara Ann McCain. Meanwhile, around 20 to 25 Hispanic Democrats have announced their support for… Gov. Bill Richardson. REALLY?! Were you watching the same debate that I was? Gov. Richardson was planning a fundraiser in Austin but he was detained in Farmers Branch.

That’s why it’s a campaign to draft Fred Thompson, just like campaigns to draft Noriega or whomever to run against Cornyn.

I’m all for Fred Thompson. But Susan Dey probably is more electable. She’s supported by the “Partridge Family” and “L.A. Law” wings of the party. She’s also easy on the eyes.
