11:58am by Pink Lady; General

I woke up late this morning, fully dressed on the couch, surrounded by empty bottles and Ghirardelli wrappers. I stumbled to the kitchen, poured myself a cup of ambition, and stopped dead in my tracks. What happened last night? Blink. Blink. OH MY GOD SHE WON.

I threw open the window and screamed, “SHE WON!!” The neighbor’s cat that shits on my Honda every morning looked at me disinterestedly. Texas. Ohio. Rhode Island. Pinch me.

Yes, I know that you all will argue that, in the end, this is all a numbers game, that Obama’s got the delegates, and Hillary just can’t pull it off without causing another civil war. But the fact that she won the pivotal states of Texas and Ohio keeps her in the game, and Obama’s campaign is on the defensive for once, facing media scrutiny and tougher questions about his record.

LET ME HAVE MY MOMENT.

Hillary’s (better late than never) victories showed that voters in key states don’t want this race to end just yet. And, speaking of key states, no one has ever won the White House without winning the Ohio primary. That’s a fact, Jack.

Last night, I thought Hillary looked great. I thought Michelle Obama looked great. I thought Barack looked annoyed. Who can blame him? He’s certainly not used to losing.

Now, as if things could get any stranger, Hillary is hinting at a possible joint ticket.

“That may be where this is headed,” Clinton told the CBS Early Show. “But of course we have to decide who is on the top of ticket. I think the people of Ohio very clearly said that it should be me.”

Isn’t that because the damn primary in Ohio is usually so late that the nomination has been sewed up? That’s like saying, “no one has ever won the White House without giving an acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention.”

Now that I’ve recovered from my opium hangover, I’d like to take a moment to retract my comment from last night, and my post last week, and every conversation I’ve had about the presidential primary in the last year, about BHO supporters being sheep. You’re obviously not sheep… Your’s just losers.

KIDDING!!!!!! Jeezah Mo! Take a chill pill.

I know you’re all going to roll your eyes at me, but here is yet another reason you should be backing HRC: now that she’s regained the momentum, and we’re all happy, shiny people in HRC land, she would totally make BHO her Veep.

I will be the first to admit that if she loses (sha, right), she stands coke whore’s chance in a custody battle of mounting another viable presidential campaign. But if we get her in the with BHO as Veep, that means we could have 8 years of HRC and then 8 years of BHO… ~and somewhere, in a dark, dark corner, Karl Rove wept.

Reality Check. Little number monkey that I am, I ran the margins of the averages of delegate projections from those 5 sites I love so much (and spend way too much time on: CNN, RCP, WP, Greenpapers, WSJ, MSNBC). Before we’re even finished awarding delegates for the TX caucus, Hill only managed a gain of 19 in pledged delegates. After TX is in the can, you can safely bet that O’s margin will be back to where it was before yesterday’s Mardi Gras Hill-arity, hovering somewhere north of 140. Next Tuesday’s MS primary should put O up again by about 150 in pledged.

I must admit to some miscalculation in my two long blogs a week or two ago. I’ll explain later. This is too long already.

But it IS about the numbers. HRC’s only hope is that Barack Obama screws up so royally between now and the convention that the Superdelegates break for her (which is possible).

HRC can prolong this thing for as long as she wants. She’s earned the right to take this to the convention. But can she actually be the nominee if the pledged delegate numbers don’t tighten significantly? What is the impact in November if the Dems beat each other up for five more months?

How much were the impeachment bills? I forget. Could have been pro bono. Come on, advertising you got Billy Boy off the blue dress charge, you could charge crazy a#s rates.

Seriously though 200K for 8 years, over 191K in Bills’s pension the last 8 years, book royalties pay good money. And people do tend to invest money when they have it ( at least people who have hundreds of thousands of dollars). Its feasible that they had a spare 5 mill sitting around the house.

Why won’t they relase the tax forms? Simple. They don’t have to.

Bob Bennett doesn’t work pro bono. Here’s CNN from February 1998, citing a $4 million Clinton debt at the time:

http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/1998/02/18/defense.fund/

Eventually those debts surpassed $5M. But in fairness to the Clintons, they had to spend the money — they were also fighting off additional suits about Whitewater, illegal fundraising, and sexual harassment (Paula, not Monica) at the time.

By the time the republicans have finished with him if he is the nominee you can bet they will have a wide swathe of americans loathing him. We’ve all heard about the recent sweetheart pipeline deal of Bill’s. He also somehow made $700K (for his foundation) on gifted stock options that were identical to options that Garry Kasparov found to be worthless:

I still think, even after the inevitable R political sniping and character assassination, that BHO wins the general 55-45 while a HRC-McC is a toss-up. The number 1 concern of voters is the economy, so already the diversion away from the FU*CKING IRAQ WAR is working.

Right there with ya’ buddy.

Re: 41. lush
I found it remarkable that every single young person (25 or so and younger) at my caucus was an Obama supporter. It seems clear that he is the reason for the high youth turnout, and I agree they’ll be disaffected if he loses. Not that that should sway anyone, but …

I don’t think he’s going to lose.

Yeah, I ended up voting for Obama. Although I was leaning his way about the last two weeks, the negative campaign run by the Clinton camp the last week (not to mention all those annoying Clinton-planted posts) pushed me farther over. I just don’t think you should tear down a fellow D as viciously as she has, thereby setting the stage for a rending of the party and giving the R’s ammo, aid, and comfort in the fall. (”His/her own fellow D’s don’t think he/she is fit to be Pres…etc.) In fact, I think it sucks.

Also, I don’t really buy Clinton’s “experience” argument. I think she has plenty of valuable experience, but not significally more than Obama where it matters. As First Lady, she had virtually nothing to do with world affairs or national security — didn’t, I believe, even have security clearance. Obama has experience enough on the legislative end, and he has not been living in a box for the last 20 years. He is a constitutional scholar and a quick study, and has been in the Senate long enough to be familar and comfortable with the major foreign policy issues facing our country. In fact, because of his background, he probably has even more motivation than most to be particularly informed about the crises in Africa. And in my estimation, he will do very well on the world stage

The bottom line for me though, since their policies were basically a wash, was my gut instinct about who has the best chance in November. And I do not believe that is Hillary. We can all argue about that, but starting out with 48-49% of the country disapproving of you would be extremely difficult to overcome. Probably impossible. And as for Obama? He has an incredible organization that trumps the old, moribund D party (yes, the very party in Texas responsible for running those caucuses — had that been Obama-organized, I bet we would have seen something different). I believe he can pull this off with that organization, his charisma, and his intellect. I believe he will kill McCain in the debates.

There is one good thing about Cinton’s negative campaining, though. It will end up helping to prepare Obama for the general election fisticuffs. (I still don’t think you should engage that way in an intraparty race. Karl and Rush are having great, great fun. I don’t care how you spin it, that cannot be good for us D’s.) But it was a wakeup call, and he’ll be prepared.

One final note. I am happy that until now, at least, Obama didn’t fling back the dirt, at least not in any forum I heard (and I think I heard them all). At least not the way he could have. He didn’t take the bait and the party is better off for it. I wouldn’t blame him at this point if he did, however. For example:

I’d say there’s a younger generation of women are inspired by that idea, of course, but not necessarily by her. Particularly not if she doesn’t acknowledge more strongly (or at all, but I’m giving her the benefit of the doubt) how much their grandmothers sacrificed and fought for their rights, particularly to vote.

I have to say, it would be nice to hear Hillary talking about that a little more, instead of ignoring it or downplaying it for fear of alienating men or being accused of playing the gender card. Stand up for your gender, Hillary. As that goes, that’s the big reason I never did get all that turned on by the fact that she’d be the first woman president. What is she representing, besides the gender and asking us once or twice to bring change by electing her the first woman president? That makes it about her. A little acknowledgement of the rest of us would have gone a long way with me. I’d love to hear her dedicate a speech just to us – the women of this country, Democrats and Republicans – giving props to the steps our grandmothers and great grandmothers took to get her here and promising to fight for us in DC.

If I missed something, fine. But I’ve never gotten an overwhelming feeling from her that she’s particularly proud to be a woman, just that she’d be proud to be the first woman nominee. I would have appreciated it if she’d championed us publicly a little more and not left that up to her big-name surrogates.

Who, by the way, haven’t done a very good job of it either, except for saying that the rest of us are betraying our gender if we don’t vote for her.

Just a theory.
