Unlike all of you, I did end up at Stephen F. last night. Like I said, I don’t mind drinking alone. What I do mind, however, is riding the bus home.

So Obama won (38%). Edwards was second — just barely (30%). And Hillary came in third (29%). You might think that this would be a tough morning for me, that I’m crying in my coffee and taking down my Hillary posters from my office walls. But OH HOW WRONG you are. After the initial shock, I’m OK with this. I still think Hillary’s the nominee.

When I got home, I stuffed my face with chocolate almonds (NO WENDY’S TONIGHT) and turned on Law & Order: SVU. Sure, I switched back and forth between CNN and TNT to catch parts of the candidate speeches which all contained the word “change” about 1,542 times. I also received a few text messages. My favorite being, “you won’t vote for a black man. you know what that makes you? a lesbian.” (double tonic)

Due to New Hampshire’s sizable lesbian population, I predict a Hillary win.

Here’s the NYT: How much did the Iowa results change the odds in the 2008 campaign? A lot. But not completely. Barack Obama is still an underdog to win the Democratic nomination…On Friday morning, Hillary Clinton was still given roughly a 52 percent chance of becoming the Democratic nominee. Barack Obama’s odds stood at about 44 percent.

In 1980, Bush won Iowa and Reagan became the nominee. In 1988, Gephardt won Iowa and Dukakis became the nominee. In 1992, Tom Harkin won Iowa and Clinton became the nominee. In 1996, Dole won Iowa and Bush became the nominee.

Why should we take our cue from Iowans? Did you see how many of those caucus-going pig farmers were wearing overalls? I haven’t worn overalls since I was in grad school, mistakenly thinking they were cute. Let me tell you from personal experience, there’s nothing cute about a twenty-something girl who is already butt-challenged wearing overalls.

When Hillary gets third in New Hampshire too, will you finally give up on your lost cause?

It is not because she is a woman. It is because she is Hillary Clinton.

Highest negatives of any candidate to start a race ever. Most of the time the candidates start out favorable or unkown and we learn to hate them. Hillary we started out hating.

Who’s your second choice?

Well if this is Hillary’s base, she’s got one tough row to hoe … or one tough hoe to row… ah Hell whatever that saying is, she’s going to have to be one tough Ho.

That Double Tonic is awfully witty for someone who doesn’t drink. I don’t know how she does it.

Re: 1. Huck Finn

I agree. She may be the most centrist, and therefore one could argue her appeal to a larger number of voters, but all of that is offset by the number of people who hate her for whatever reason. I don’t personally dislike her, although I would prefer someone farther to the left, but I’m not convinced she could pull off the general election win.

So, PL, who’s your second choice?

Many posts ago, PL said that Obama was her second choice.

In 1996 Dole won AND ended up the Republican nominee and Bush ended up doing the same thing in 2000…

huh? In 1996, Dole won Iowa and Bush became the nominee.

That’s not the case. Dole was the nominee after losing Iowa…I think…

Just say no (more) to Clinton/Bush. Please.

Things are looking also ran for my preference, Bill Richardson. VP or SoS, perhaps, to make up for lack of foreign service experience of frontrunners?

Re: 6. Perry’s Mollycoddler

Wrong again- Dole won Iowa in 1996 and Bush won it in 2000, both eventually ending up as their party’s nominee.

Thank you Wikipedia…

This doesn’t feel like 80, 88, 92 or 96. There are only 4 days separating Iowa and the NH primary. The entrance/exit polls showed that BO took the female vote, the independent vote, economy voters, Iraq voters…HC has the advantage with experience voters, but is that enough to win?

From the Guardian:

Clinton’s ahead of Obama in NH by 32% to 26%. Nationally, Clinton also holds a wide lead over Obama, at 41% and Obama at 24%.

I don’t have to think of a second choice yet. But, come on, who saw Edwards’ speech last night? That man is ANGRY. And SCARY.

Scary is right, he and Romney both remind me of Gov. Mofo. Is it the hair?

Irrespective of how it all comes out in the wash on Super Tuesday I think we can all agree that Iowa sucks big time…

There were way, way too many references to “I” in Hillary’s speach last night.

It definitely contrasted with the “we” talk coming from the other camps, including *gulp* Huckleberry’s.

her second choice is richardson. All his sweating aside, we all know that PL loves the hispanics, and santa fe.

In 1992, Harkin won Iowa, Tsongas won NH, MD and OK, but WJC was the only one with an organization in enough states to take the nomination once you hit Super Tuesday. Same in 2000 with GWB and McCain.

One-quarter of Obama’s national supporters say BO (!) does not have the experience to be President.

Those two factors are why HRC will be the nominee.

P.S. Women in overalls are always sexy. But they cannot drink pinot.

So disapointed about HRC, but don’t count her out yet. I’m with PL on this one.
