The White House and Vice President Rogue Scamp Dick Cheney have been served. Can you hear that? That’s the sound of my world rocking.
The Senate Judiciary Committee Wednesday subpoenaed Cheney and the Administration for documents relating to President Bush’s eavesdropping program. Not that the Executive Branch wasn’t expecting this. Subpoenas were also issued to the Justice Department, the National Security Council and your mama.
Committee members continue to challenge the legality of the wiretap program. When pressed for comment, the White House announced that President Bush is no longer part of the Executive Branch.
“We’re aware of the committee’s action and will respond appropriately,” White House spokesman Tony Fratto said. “It’s unfortunate that congressional Democrats continue to choose the route of confrontation.”
The subpoenas come on top of the ongoing investigation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales (really? still?) and his role in the federal prosecutor firings.
Last month, the committee heard testimony from former Deputy Attorney General James Comey, who said that Gonzales, acting as White House counsel, asked Attorney General John Ashcroft to recertify the program.
When Ashcroft, who was in the hospital recovering from gall bladder surgery, refused, Gonzales killed him.

Yeah, my mama was served her subpoena today. She chortled and then enumerated the ways in which she was her own separate branch of government, the one that’ll give you something to cry about.
It’s unfortunate that the Bush Administration continues to choose the route of arrogance, imperial power and unaccountability.
Dick Cheney is truly the prototypical DWE.
