Beware SXSW.
Good God - I tried to venture out downtown for lunch and was caught up in a traffic jam reminiscent of driving to the Delaware coast for 4th of July weekend. And all around me, terrible bands and people not from here wandering around drinking (domestic) beer and smoking (illegal substances). Hate.
Leave the comfort of your home or office at your own peril.
The trackback URL is here.
And yet, Trudy’s by UT was blissfully empty Monday night. It’s only the area south of the Pink Dome that is the mess.
ILMSSXSW. This is my favorite weekend of the year to live in Austin. The NCAA tournament, live music around every corner & St. Patrick’s Day. It’s like my perfect storm.
can’t beat the peoplewatching.

JCBT has a fauxhawk.
Badges? We don’t need no stinking badges!

I just drove from the Capitol to my house northwest of campus and hardly saw another vehicle.
Sweet. Motoring bliss.

Tell me about it. Couldn’t get a hotel room. Couldn’t get cabs. Couldn’t go anywhere without seeing young people having fun, all the while stuck in that pink granite edifice. For HOURS. On END.
Sucks.

bah humbug, you bah humbuggers.
It’s a hell of a day to see, sir!
sxsw rocks.
Re: 2. lush
I definitely don’t miss doing a bizillion “news” stories on said SXSW, NCAA, Star of Texas Rodeo and St. Patrick’s Day. If you’re a TV reporter in Austin you know exactly what I’m talking about.
Re. 10 MetroNews1
Running a close second in the “odd conglomoration of austin visitors” category is the weekend when the HOT motorcycle rally, Splash Day and the college world series regionals are all going on. Harleys, gays and baseball. Although I guess there could be some cross over.
Re: 10. MetroNews1
Floods. Don’t forget reporting about the floods.
PL: You’re just pissed off because they don’t read your blog. If 10, 000 folks were in town for politics, the hipsters would be bitching and you’d be in heaven. Its all good for the Mother city.
The weather is here, I wish you were beautiful.
All I know is that any day that begins with me and Alejandro Escovedo sitting at the light at Barton Springs and Congress together is going to be a GREAT day. He is my Mick Jagger. I’m totally going to be geeking out over it all day long.
Re: 14. lush
A day that ends with a dook upset in the tournament can’t be all bad, either.
Re: 15. The Best Ever Death Metal Band in Denton
Oh HELL yes. I am KILLING in my office pool, too. Most favorite weekend of the year? Coming right up!
Re: 16. lush
Oh yeah, and I have a house full of ultra-talented musicians staying with me this weekend. Including Salvador Duran–any Calexico fans on this blog?–THAT Salvador Duran. Sigh….life is so very good.
Re: 6. whiskeydent
heh. I laugh at that joke every year.

I like you better when you walk away.
Re: 19. alejandro

[…] Crap — and I have to go downtown this afternoon, too: Beware SXSW. […]
Re: 17. lush
I’m a HUGE fan of calexico. Are they going to do a set at your house?? I’m THERE
Re: 22. Perry’s Mollycoddler
Wouldn’t THAT be something? Let’s just say I can’t wait to visit Mom in Tucson. I will surely time my visits to coincide with a show or two. The folks that are staying with me are friends of Calexico, not actually Calexico.

Where’s the proprietress of this blog? Check and see if the Stephen F has any pinot left.
the hipsters have taken her.
Re: 24. Don’t Mess w/ Pink
Are you here? I can meet you there in 10 to conduct an exhaustive search.
Re: 26. lush
Alas, I am not.
Should we issue an Amber Alert? About 5′5″, blonde hair, freakishly small knees, curious talent for pithily hilarious headlines, slurs her words …
Re: 27. Don’t Mess w/ Pink
I’m going to go search for her down on South 1st. I’ll miss you.
Re: 17. lush
uh, how did you arrange for those house guests?!
Re: 17. lush
While I’m not a fan of covering the hodgepodge of Austin March events… I AM a fan of Calexico. :)
Let’s just put it this way, I’m jealous because all those fun events (SXSW, etc.) aren’t fun when you have to work ‘em.

Calexico fans–heads up. Salvador–downstairs, singing in my backyard–will be playing at El Sol y La Luna for brunch. 11 am.
